WRONG STANDARDS

Many people are failures in their own eyes because they judge themselves by the wrong standards. Likewise, many people are a success in their own eyes because they judge themselves by the wrong standards. Simply put, a wrong standard is "anything" aside the right standard. We easily fall for the wrong standards because they are infinite and ubiquitous I.e you can find them just about anywhere-your facebook wall, your Instagram page, someone's what's app status, movies, a discussion with a friend, even at a church meeting. Suddenly you think its time you start a relationship or get married, wonder where you got that standard? Or you think its time you start a business, a ministry or an online course, wonder where you got that idea? Check your wish list, your ambitions, future goals; over 70% of them have origins in what you saw "somewhere". If you don't believe me, check that dress, food or gadget you've been longing for. Likewise your taste/fashion sense is affected by the standards you have seen. I find it convenient to use these practical examples to elucidate this single proposition....

Never use a wrong standard to judge things; your life, the year, your friends, your family, your results or even anything at all. You'll either get a false positive or a false negative result.

Be careful before you judge, either yourself or others. In the 2003 film, Bruce Almighty, Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan, complains to God(played by Morgan Freeman) that he is not doing his job correctly and is offered the chance to try being God himself for one week. He ends up walking alone on a highway, asking God to take back his powers and letting his fate be in his hands. Trust me, No one can be better at being God/A judge other than God himself. Stop judging your life by the wrong standards. Look to God to give you the right standards for your own life. This will save you from the curse of comparing your life with others. God has a timetable and a plan for your life that is specifically tailored for you. So don't get discouraged thinking you're behind schedule or a failure and Don't get proud thinking you're successful or better than others. Surrender to God like Bruce did and allow him give you the right standards and timetable that you can judge your life by.

Remember, we all only post our best moments(and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that). Everyone looks Happy, rich and Comfortable on social media. However, don't let that Discourage you, rather let it inspire you to aim higher. You're still special, beautiful and of great worth cause your true identity and Right standard is in Christ.
